The All Nigerian Football Players Union (ANFPU) was birthed out of necessity. There was a massive niche and void that has been in existence the last few decades. It was obvious to every discerning mind that something has to give in the face of the ever-growing frustration and discontent within the football family especially the retired players. Our primary objective is to cater to the welfare of both our retired and active Football players.
The history of Players Union in Nigeria is not complete without telling the story about how it all started. Nigerian footballers of yore were always at the receiving end in their Football career in respect to contract, wages and general welfare.
The camaraderie between the Club Owners and Players were like master and servant relationship. Footballers were treated like casual workers that could be discarded at will. Just to mention a few, there were no contracts for Players, Salaries were not paid as at when due, Sign-on barely came as agreed, same applies to match bonus and allowances.
